A Food Poisoning Outbreak Caused by Shigella in Al-Mafraq, Jordan, in 2019

Background On October 6, 2019, 55 residents of Bala'ama town in Al-Mafraq, Jordan, were admitted to the local health care center with symptoms food poisoning. Objective This study aimed identify cause poisoning outbreak. Methods descriptive is a cross-sectional study. Data obtained from Directorate Communicable Diseases Ministry Health. A total 25 stool samples patients and an additional 2 workers restaurant collected tested. An environmental survey water was also conducted. Results The period outbreak 6 10, 2019. highest proportion children under 5 years age. More females than males affected. Stool test results positive for Shigella sonnei 15 rotavirus 7 samples. Chloride concentration 0 Conclusions caused by consumption hummus neighborhood restaurant, which contaminated S. sonnei.
